Today it was absolutely freezing! And with the new jacket additions from the How Two Live sale now sitting in my wardrobe, it was the perfect opportunity to pull out this number. I have been looking endlessly for a textured bomber jacket these past couple of months. The hardest part wasn’t finding one I liked, but finding one that suited a students’ price range. I have eyed this Sportsgirl one for a while, but I never bought it; I think because it was a bit beyond my budget at the time. So you can imagine my excitement to see it on the HTL sale rack for $60 which was less than half the sale price. I literally ran up to it and ripped it off the rack. When I went to the change room another girl kept commenting on how nice it was; I told her I was definitely going to buy it since she kept following me around, I’m assuming hoping I would put it back. This jacket is so perfect for cold weather like today. It is quite thick, without looking overly bulky. Also, it’s perfect for days at uni because it is so comfortable, like a sports top, but looks quite chic – especially since its the faux leather is embossed with a kind of paisley pattern.
I am really like the white-on-white look these days; it has come up a few times in my recent blog posts. This jacket is perfect for this trend because of its ‘off-white’ colour, making a nice contrast to the starkness of pure white. Going with the white theme I decided to wear the few white accessories I have and paint my nails white: more out of procrastination than to compliment my outfit. I think I went a little overboard with the all-white nails. I think I’ll stick to a traditional french manicure. Also, I love the paisley the paisley with my scarf and jacket! It was planned though.
I hope everyone around the world is enjoying the summer months as opposed to the disgusting winter cold were experiencing here. I was so cold today, my face was in physical pain!
I was beyond excited when Jess and Steph Daddon of How Two Live announced they were having a huge sale of their clothing! Of course this included a meet and greet as well, and honestly, that’s what I was more excited about. I have been following these girls for the past couple of months in absolute awe of them, and the fact I get to see them in person is like someone meeting their favourite sports player. But of course I took advantage of the array of amazing clothes – some of them have been to some of the coolest fashion events and shows.
I was super keen and lined up for event an hour before doors opened. I wanted to be first in so I could grab all the stuff I wanted first. When it comes to clothing sales, it is serious business. I felt a little awkward since I was the only one waiting that wasn’t 15 years old and wearing jelly sandals. I did want to dress well for the occasion because I did want them to notice my outfit. Which they did! They told me they loved my pants; I died.
In the end I ended up getting a off white embossed bomber jacket, faux fur jacket, pink stitch kimono cape and a baulch statement necklace. All for $200! And I can’t wait to do some outfit posts with them, so look forward to that. I ended up finding the matching shorts to the kimono on eBay, so fingers crossed I get them and I’ll have the entire ensemble. One disappointment was that they didn’t have the Jeffrey Campbell Stingers on sale, but they would be crazy to let them go.
All in all a fantastic day and I’m in love with all my purchases.
Last night I saw the truly amazing Legally Blonde: The Musical. It was such a fantastic show. My favourite part was not the fact that they had real life dogs playing Bruiser and Roofus, nor the topless dancing guys throughout the production, nor the amazing vocal abilities of the cast, it was the fact that Elle had her own Greek chorus of Delta Nus. They were absolutely hilarious. I wish I had my own group of Goddesses ot help narrate my life. Watching them dance about the stage, performing hilarious songs and reciting jokes and one liners made me want to be in musicals. Truth be told, I feel that way every time I see a musical. The only downside to the night was that I was blocked not only by a pole – which didn’t bother me too much – but I had a 7 ft woman sitting in front of me. By the end I was prepared to tell her to crouch down. But all in all, FANTASTIC!
I have been waiting to wear this Sister Jane Dress. I have loved the jewel and psychedelic prints from Nicholas the Label and White Suede, and when I found this gem I couldn’t resist. Especially since it was more in my price range. My friends and I were even told we “looked fabulous” and now were featured on the Legally Blonde Facebook page. So I was feeling qute confident in my little number. Also, Emma Bunton wore this dress on Saturday Night Takeaway, so I feel a little more upmarket wearing it.
Today I caught up with my boyfriend for breakfast since it is basically the only time I could see him this week with all my assignments for uni; although I can’t ever complain about going out for breakfast. It is my favourite meal. Unsure of where we would go, we were on our way to DeGraves Street, however just before turning the corner we stumbled across this little cafe called The Journal. Once stepping inside the cafe we saw, above the tables, shelves filled with books and magazines for customers to read whilst sipping on coffee. They had an upstairs (well if you could call 4 stairs upstairs) section with proper cooked breakfast meals rather than cafe style breakfast (croissants, toasted sandwiches and muesli . I ended up ordering the home made baked been with poached eggs and feta. Amazing. I HATE runny yolk and for the first time when asking for well done poached eggs I got them! Not to mention excellent coffee!
Before I make this sound like a food critique, my I was pretty much done up in ASOS today. This midi dress is my most recent purchase. I love the floral details at the bottom that completely contrasts the red and navy blue stripes. I’m trying to be more adventurous with my prints as I’ve noticed that a lot of my wardrobe is solid colour. And I must say I’m loving the transition and I look forward to experimenting with mixing and matching prints. One day I’ll be as good as Jess and Steph Daddon of HowTwoLive.
Also, I love the fact I was able to show (very minimal) skin today because we had gorgeous weather. I always feel the cold and it was nice to walk around the city today without a jacket and feel a bit of sun on my skin.
Tonight I thought it would be cute to go have a nice dinner on Lygon St. with my mum while we waited for my sister to finish her singing lesson because I know she has been stressed and anxious between family issues, work, uni and organizing my dad’s birthday extravaganza. I usually go the main part of Lygon, but we decided to try something a little different and went down the opposite end. We went to a restaurant called Zia Terra’s: first disaster. We walked in the door, expecting a somewhat friendly waiter to take us to our seats considering the price of the food, but instead we were greeted by some old bitter Italian woman saying “yes?” to us as if we were unwelcome.
Second disaster: I showed my mum some paper work I was really excited about completely ignoring the small tea candle on the table. Next thing I know the whole sheets alight. I tried to blow it out which exacerbated the fire, which then fell on my skirt. I then threw it on the carpet floor where my mum frantically was stamping on it. Needless to say we were left embarrassed and the already bitter waitress not impressed. (No carpet or pants were harmed in these events)
Third Disaster: My mother and I were then re-escorted to a new table but received no menus. It took me 5 minutes and asking 2 waiters for menus before we finally got some. Up until this point we were feeling a little crappy about the place, but it was made up for by the beautiful food. We started with Mushroom Arancini which were heavenly; followed by a slow cooked lamb for mum and rabbit in congac for me. It was food heaven.
Fourth Disaster: after dinner I decided to take a few snaps of my outfit (as seen) but when me and my mum went to stand up and move to a better location in the restaurant the waitress came up to us and started asking what we were doing; implying a dine and dash. I couldn’t have dashed even if I wanted to in these heels! So we just took some bar nuts, paid the bill and left. Lucky I got a few snaps while it was light outside before we left.
I guess we can safely say I don’t think I want to return to that restaurant. I don’t think they’ll let me due to the fact I’m a potential fire hazard.
For my outfit I was feeling like following the Monochrome trend. Also I have been coveting my sister’s fur vest so I thought it would accentuate the small trims of black on the skirt and the black backing of my boots. I also love the small details on this outfit: from the criss cross pattern on my boots to the laced sleeve on my plain white tee.
Today I had a trial at To The Max boutique on Lygon St. The first thing I thought after I got the news that I got a trial was “what am I going to wear?” And I think I made the right decision with these beautiful pants from Aqua by Aqua. I got a lot of compliments from customers who came in which was awesome. I hope I did well, I was so nervous! I was glad I met up with my boyfriend for lunch so he could calm my nerves. I had a blast during the trial; even if it only went for an hour. If you’re located in Melbourne and you love Australian designers, head to this boutique. It’s called To The Max and it’s located on Lygon St Carlton. They stock every Australian designer you can think of: Alice McCall, Shakuhachi, Bec & Bridge, Nicholas The Label, Maurie & Eve, Motel, all of them! I spotted the Nicholas Digi Floral Dress and my heart nearly skipped a beat. I even went over to stroke it since I only saw it online; it’s even better in person.
Also I hope you guys are liking my slightly better quality photos on my camera. I’m so happy to finally be able to take photos as it gets darker because sometimes I don’t have time to take photos before I leave to go somewhere; and my iphone camera is less than capable at night time. I love how bright it makes my orange pants look! This adequately reflects how much they stand out on a dreary winter day like today. I felt eyes staring as I’d walk through the city while everyone was dressed in dull grey, black, oxblood and dark denim. It’s always nice to make a statement though. In Winter people tend to shy away from bold colours and prints, so that’s even more of a reason to embrace it!
Also, I should probably mention that my bag was a free gift with purchase from Priceline. It was such a nice leopard print, and a great stiff material that made it an ideal bag to lug around between Uni and my trial today. The leopard detailing on my belt matched it perfectly. It’s important to remember that good style doesn’t mean the most expensive.
Today I had my interview, on Lygon st. I feel like I live there now between all the times I’ve been there with my boyfriend and uni friends in the past month…they’re probably starting to recognize me. They kept the interview very casual, taking me to Brunettis, a popular Italian cafe. It really helped my nerves to be able to hold onto a coffee cup instead of fidget nervously with my hands; and who can argue with a free coffee. I think it went well, but they said I’ll know by next week sometime. So fingers crossed, and I’ll keep you posted!
I met up with my boyfriend afterwards and we went to the same cafe as in my previous post…and got the same dish. I told you we couldn’t wait long. I didn’t want to look so formal when I met up with my boyfriend so I packed a cute cropped knit to wear with my skirt to make it more casual. It’s amazing what a difference one item of clothing can change your outfit. I didn’t end up taking a photo of my outfit with the blazer because I was too nervous to think about an outfit post at that stage. But here is a photo of my blazer, how lovely is it!
It gives such a grand statement compared to the traditional black blazer. People should not be afraid to stray from black blazers, especially in the workplace. A blazer, whether it be royal blue or neon green or floral print, will always give a sense of class and sophistication to any outfit.
Here’s some blazers im coveting at the moment; which can all be purchased here at The Iconic:
Sass & Bide Two Dimensions Jacket; Style Stalker Galactica Jacket; Finders Keepers Remember A Day Jacket; Pink Stitch Straighty Jacket
